Julius "Jules" Aquila Obituary

Julius D. Aquila, known affectionately as Jules to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, with his loving wife by his side. Born on March 11, 1949, in Jersey City, Jules was a son of the late Louis and Anna Aquila. He spent his childhood in Hoboken and later moved to Belford during his teen years, where he would eventually lay down roots and build a life filled with love, laughter, and the fruits of his labor.

Jules is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Fran Aquila, and their cherished children: daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Zac Garvelink, daughter Debbie Burchett, and son David Aquila. His legacy continues through his brother Louis Aquila, and two sisters, Shelly Isso and Luann Tansey. Jules was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with whom he shared a special bond, particularly with Ryan and Lila Garvelink. His extended family includes several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

For many years, Jules was the proud owner and operator of JD Aquila Painting Contracting, a business that not only served the Bayshore area but also stood as a testament to his hard work and dedication. His professional life was marked by the same kindness and handiness that he brought to every aspect of his personal life.

Jules had a passion for the outdoors and the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid gardener, taking particular pride in his bountiful tomato crops that were the envy of friends and neighbors. His love for the water was evident in the joy he found in days spent out on his boat or simply sitting at the marina, admiring the vessels that bobbed on the waves. A social butterfly, Jules enjoyed shooting pool and playing darts with his friends. His membership at the Middletown Elks Lodge 2179 for many years was a reflection of his commitment to community and camaraderie.

As we say goodbye to Julius D. Aquila, we hold tight to the memories that he leaves behind, a legacy of love, hard work, and the importance of family. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit continues to guide and inspire us.
