Guy K. Cornett, Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on December 9, 1955, in Jersey City, he was a son of the late Daniel and Lucy Cornett. Guy's early years were spent in Jersey City before his family moved to Hazlet, where he would spend the majority of his life, creating a legacy of love, hard work, and fond memories.
Guy was a man of many talents and interests. He owned and operated a successful carpet and flooring business that served clients throughout New York and New Jersey. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his craft earned him respect in the industry and among his peers. Guy's work was not just a job; it was a reflection of his commitment to excellence and his desire to provide for his family.
Outside of work, Guy had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of country music and could often be found humming along to his favorite tunes. A lover of cinema, Guy particularly enjoyed mobster movies, finding both entertainment and relaxation in the stories of loyalty and family. His love for food was evident in his fondness for buffets and the simple joy of a Costco hotdog.
Guy was also a skilled handyman, with a special talent for working on cars. He had dreams of restoring "curbside beauties," seeing potential in the forgotten and overlooked. His hands were rarely still, always tinkering, fixing, and improving, much to the admiration of those who knew him.
Above all, Guy cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving son, Guy, Jr., and his wife Donna Funaro; his devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Chris Frescki, Dena and Brendan Parker; his caring brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Wanda Cornett; and his sister, Susan Blanthorn. His legacy continues through his three granddaughters, Ysabelle, Scarlett, and Rayann Cornett. Guy's playful spirit lives on in his three grand-furbabies, Dolly, Mason, and Chesney.
Guy was predeceased by his former wife and best friend, Margaret "Debbie" Cornett, and his siblings, George Amadio, John "Butchie" Cornett, Trina Cornett, and his twin sisters, Frances and Francine Cornett. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Tuesday, February 10th from 4 - 7pm. A Service will conclude the evening, and a private cremation will follow.
