Brian "Binky" Hayes, Sr. Obituary

Brian P. "Binky" Hayes, Sr., a cherished soul known for his friendly demeanor and courageous spirit, passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on February 10, 1968, in Red Bank, New Jersey, Binky was the beloved son of the late Patrick "Mickey" and Lorraine Hayes. Raised in West Keansburg, he spent the majority of his life in the Bayshore area, where he touched the lives of many with his vibrant personality.

Binky's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his work, and his passions. He is survived by his loving fiancée of five years, Andrea Copp, and his sons, Brian Hayes, Jr., whom he shared with his first wife, Susan Hayes Clark, and Patrick Hayes, from his wife, Clorinda Hayes. Binky also leaves behind four stepsons, Matthew Zentz; Thomas Maldonado and his children, Skylar and Avery, along with their mother Jennifer Heck; Matthew Copp and his daughter Madison Copp; and Timothy Copp. His legacy continues through his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Michael (Timmie) Hayes and William (Laura) Hayes, and his sister and her companion, Susan Hayes and Stephen Wolf. His extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including Gary "Mayo" Mason, Thomas McGarry, Barry "Jake" Steward, Mike and Steph DeRosa, Thomas Humphry and Susan Heck, will forever cherish the memories they shared with Binky. His Uncle Joe Hayes, Uncle Thomas (Laura) Dunning, and his Aunt Madeline Dunning held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents and grandmothers, Florence Hayes and Dorothy Dunning.

A proud graduate of Raritan High School, Class of 1986, Binky began his career as an iron worker at the tender age of 15. His commitment to his craft was evident through his long-standing membership with the Iron Workers Union Local 197 in New York City. Binky's work ethic and dedication to his profession were unparalleled, and his contributions to the skyline of New York will stand as a testament to his skill and hard work.

Binky's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. A true sports enthusiast, he played hockey, football, and boxed during his younger years. His love for the game led him to coach football and baseball, inspiring young athletes in the Bayshore area. A devoted fan of the Rangers and Yankees, Binky also enjoyed college football. His obsession with roller skating and love for the beach and boogie boarding were activities he cherished, especially when shared with his boys. Binky's fondness for old gangster movies harkened back to his days in Hell's Kitchen, and his support for animal rescue with Andrea showcased his compassionate nature.

Binky's love for his country was as profound as his political convictions, and he was proud to be an American and a devout Republican. His presence was a source of strength and joy for those who knew him, and his ability to maintain lifelong friendships spoke volumes about the depth of his loyalty and the warmth of his heart.

Binky's passing was a result of complications from his selfless efforts in helping clear the destruction at Ground Zero following the tragic events of 9/11. His bravery and sacrifice exemplify the character of a man who was always ready to lend a helping hand and put others before himself.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, February 8th from 1 - 5 pm and again Monday from 10 - 11 am at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. The Funeral Service will take place at 11 am at the funeral home and the Burial and Committal will immediately follow at Bayview Cemetery in Leonardo.
